Mont St. Michel

Religious holiday (Easter) at a religious pilgrimage spot = pretty damn cool.

What is Mont St. Michel?
It's a rocky island that has been used as an abbey, fort, jail, monastery, and the list goes on. Today it's mostly a tourist UNESCO site, but the church is still active and there is a tiny village on the island. The monastery on the island was first established in the 8th century.

It really is one of the coolest things I have ever seen with my own eyes. We were driving through the middle of a sheep/cow field and all of the sudden you see this:

It's kind of scary looking!

This is the beginning of the one windy road in the town on the mount.

Wait, you mean we have to walk to the top of a mountain to get to the top of MONT St. Michel? This should not have been a surprise to us, but alas...

Some serious site-seeing to be done!

"Is that our baby rental Renault being taken out with the tide?" Whoops!
